C-Explorer series

Sitting behind the controls of a C-Explorer submersible is among the most thrilling adventures anyone could imagine. Witnessing underwater life first hand with a C-Explorer submarine with its 360° panoramic view can only be described as “out of this world”.

You will have the complete freedom to explore dive sites that have never been visited by recreational or professional divers, or unmanned submersibles equipped with cameras. Thousands of unexplored wrecks, numerous species, and dazzlingly beautiful coral reefs lie waiting to be discovered.

C-Explorer 3 diving in the Seychelles

When designing the C-Explorer series, U-Boat Worx followed these key guidelines: safety, performance, comfort and visibility, meaning our subs provide the ultimate way to successfully explore the ocean.

Anatomy

Acrylic Sphere

The industry’s widest largest acrylic sphere is the center of the C-Explorer 3 design. This window – officially called a “NEMO viewport” – provides and undistorted view to the subsea world and is specially fabricated in the United Kingdom for U-Boat Worx.

Lithium-ion battery system

The latest in Lithium-ion battery technology is used to give our submersibles the ultimate performance, lowest weight, smallest footprint, and best endurance possible. The 42 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack can be quickly recharged and is maintenance-free.

Flexible diving tanks

Diving tanks provide buoyancy and stability on the surface. U-Boat Worx’s flexible diving tanks are made of rubber-like Hypalon®. When deflated to dive they completely compress, and do not replace their volume with water. This greatly increases underwater performance as there is no additional underwater mass, improving the streamline. Storing the submersible with deflated diving tanks also requires less space.

Large access hatch

You embark the C-Explorer 3 through its top-hatch. This is a large opening on the top that allows for comfortable entry into the interior of the submersible.

Single lifting point

The single lifting point makes launch and recovery quick and easy. By only having to attach it at one point – to the crane – you create a safer environment. With the quick-release and efficient-connect lifting gear, you can be quickly in and out of the water. If desired, its man-riding certification supports lifting operations to take place with people inside.

Effortless control

Each U-Boat Worx submersible is delivered with a world-class pilot training course. The intuitive interface of our submersibles is easy for pilots to learn. Unique to the U-Boat Worx private submarines is passengers being able to navigate the submersible while under supervision of the pilot. The unique control device – the MANTA Controller – can simply be handed over by the pilot to his guests for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to personally steer a submarine.

Luxurious and spacious interior

With the C-Explorer series, we have aspired to create the ultimate in luxury interior design. When onboard a C-Explorer, guests enjoy exhilarating views from a sumptuous chair in a comfortable air-conditioned environment with variable airflow, adjustable from each seat. You can also enjoy music from a hi-fidelity Bluetooth sound-system and even chill your favourite drinks in a cold-storage box.

UIS

The U-Boat Worx Information System (UIS) gives the pilot direct access to all relevant information on a clear touch-screen display. The PLC-based network of sensors ensures the right information is provided at the right time. The UIS makes diving effortless.

Acrylic Cylinder

The middle section of the C-Explorer 5’s pressure hull is an acrylic cylinder.

Acrylic Hemisphere

The front section of the pressure hull of the C-Explorer 5 is a hemispherical viewport.

Steel rear section

The aft part of the C-Explorer 5’s pressure hull is a steel hemispherical part, which also includes the entry hatch for the occupants.

Vectored horizontal thrusters

A total of six electrical brushless DC thrusters propel the C-Explorer 5 to unparalleled levels of performance. Four of the six thrusters are configured as vectored horizontal, which introduces an exceptional sideward movement capability.

Safety Buoy

The Safety Buoy is characteristic for U-Boat Worx submersibles. When released it marks the position of the submarine on the surface. The safety buoy of the deep-diving C-Researcher models also sends a signal to the mother ship. The Dyneema Rope that connects the buoy with the submersible measures 1.5 times the operating depth of the submersible.

Features of the C-Explorer Series

  • MAXIMUM MANOEUVRABILITY AND SPEED

C-Explorers utilise our proven Lithium-ion battery technology. U-Boat Worx was the first company to equip and certify its models with this advanced battery system. The majority of traditional submersible workshops are still applying outdated, inefficient lead-acid battery systems, which can develop explosive H2 gasses and require much more servicing compared with our safe, ecologically friendly and maintenance-free Lithium-ion batteries.

Thanks to the abundant electrical capacity of our battery system, the C-Explorers carry six powerful thrusters that facilitate both easy manoeuvrability, and speed. They also provide sufficient power for an effective air-conditioning system that can be operated without restriction.

  • Unimpeded View

To experience the underwater world in the optimal way, one of U-Boat Worx’ design priorities has always been the clearest view. Our remarkably clear fully acrylic pressure hull provides an unobstructed view in every direction, unimpeded by ballast tanks, batteries and other components.

  • Ever-ready

Some may believe that getting a submersible ready to dive is a time-consuming operation. However, Owners of U-Boat Worx submersibles know that their submarines are simple, efficient and easy to launch and recover. Pre-dive preparations are swiftly executed by our effective design, state-of-the-art software and smart checklists that ensure your submersible is ready to dive whenever you are.

  • CAREFREE LAUNCH and RECOVERY

When designing each model, U-Boat Worx factors in a variety of specific solutions to ensure safe and effortless launch and recovery from any type of support vessel. The C-Researcher is no exception. Its single lifting point allows for safe and quick launch and recovery. Man-riding certification is standard to support lifting operations to take place with people inside the submersible, if desired.

Another unique feature of each U-Boat Worx submersible is the MARLIN Controller. This wireless remote control allows the operator or pilot to steer the submarine while it is on the surface – effortlessly guiding the sub away from, or back to, the support vessel.
