The Joint Ownership Programme delivers all the joy of ownership with a surprisingly low initial outlay. Our programme has been specifically created to offer a high-value, effortless and inspiring submersible exploration to its members at the world’s most amazing dive locations. The programme enables owners to conveniently and cost-effectively share all the acquisition and operational costs of the submersible without any worry about maintenance, management, and storage. Owners enjoy peace of mind thanks to complete transparency, legal ownership, and full management by a company you can trust.
The ultra-modern design, sharp lines, hydrodynamic form, and optimal power to weight ratio, combine to create an instant classic. The NEMO’s fine detailing – including transparent nosecones, octagonal thruster ducts, car-like stern, and a fully acrylic pressurised hull – create a submarine with personality and performance. With a total weight of only 2,500 kilograms, the NEMO is the lightest manned submersible ever built. It stands only 155 centimeters high. With these key features, the NEMO is suited for a much wider audience. Given its low weight and size, the NEMO can be towed behind a car on a trailer for shoreside launching.
The Joint Ownership Programme works by bringing a group of owners together in a combined ownership structure over a set period of time. The submarine will be kept at a fixed shore-based location or will be carried onboard a dedicated support vessel that is part of the location-specific investment.
At the end of the programme period (typically 5 years), owners have the option either to dissolve the ownership structure and receive the proceeds of the sale in accordance with their shareholding, or continue with the same submersible with possibly new owners and/or at a new location.
Scheduling
Each 1/8th share in the programme entitles each owner to a number of days of diving every year. These are scheduled via an online reservation tool that ensures a fair division of the available days between all owners.
Co-owners may decide to join forces and organise multi-day – or even multi-week expedition from the submersible’s home base.
Diving
You can dive during your entire day (or night) wherever you like, for how long you like. Your sub will be in the water when you arrive and you decide if you want to pilot (subject to completing pilot license) – or have a pilot on board. At the end of your dive(s), your Sub Manager will recover, rinse and do all post-dive related activities including refilling and recharging for the next dive operation.
Maintenance and certification
Throughout the lifetime of the programme, your submarine will be cared for and safeguarded by the best in the business. Our aftercare provision is world class. The upkeep and technical operation of the sub is undertaken by a team that is part of U-Boat Worx. Each submersible is maintained to the highest standards, which also means we will manage the annual certification of the submersible by Norwegian-German Classification Society, DNV.
U-Boat Worx envisions a dynamic community of likeminded ocean explorers. Joint research projects, information exchange and combined expeditions are great examples of what lies ahead of the programme members. As future Joint Ownership Program locations are added, you’ll be granted exclusive access to this network of submarine owners. Depending on the location and demand for your time slots, you may swap time slots (possibly corrected for factor reflecting the difference in investment and operating budget) or pay an additional fee.
Investment (one-time)
The Joint Ownership Programme member must first purchase an interest in a submarine. Ownership is registered by means of share allocation in a Netherlands-based Limited Partnership.
The investment covers:
The submersible pilot training program is not mandatory, but great fun, thus highly recommended. Especially as it will allow you as the co-owner to operate the submarine him/herself.
The cost for following pilot training will depend on the location.
Annual Contribution
Once the payment and registry are completed, the management responsibilities of the submersibles will be delegated to U-Boat Worx. Apart from ensuring safety, reliability and expert service of your submarine, it will offer peace of mind to the co-owner.
The contribution is agreed upon by the co-owners annually and covers the fixed cost of the submarine as budgeted for that year. These cost include:
The contribution amount can be paid per year or on a monthly basis in which case an advance payment of 4- month is required at the beginning of the year.
Not time-share
Unlike time-share programs, you become a legal co-owner of the submarine and have title to the assets. The contribution fee is transparent, set and accepted on an annual basis and actuals are reported via the online owners portal. The Joint Ownership Program is as all-inclusive as possible, with only consumables, optional crew services, and other direct pre-agreed missions-specific expenses being chargeable.
Direct and mission-specific cost
The only remaining cost are direct costs like consumables (approximately € 25 per day) and any costs that are specific to your mission. Should a co-owner have any mission-specific requirements, then there might be an additional cost. These will be managed on a case-by-case basis and may require the consent of the other co-owners.
Unplanned cost
Financial reservations are included in the annual budget to cover unplanned service items outside the scope of the scheduled maintenance and more structural replacements. In the first year, the NEMO submarine is also covered under the regular U-Boat Worx warranty.
The annual budget is updated and adopted by the co-owners every year.
A Finance Manager from U-Boat Worx is assigned as part of the management fee. The Finance Manager will help create completely transparent finances – in real time on the online owners portal – for all owners to get an accurate handle on the ongoing running costs.
