The NEXUS complements U-Boat Worx’ range of highly successful Cruise Sub models with a fully acrylic version. We have poured our vast accumulation of experience, fresh ideas, and technical developments into the NEXUS to offer the most high-end subsea experience. This feature-packed experience comes at a premium and is weighs slightly more than comparable Cruise Sub models.
Excelling across performance, viewing area, internal comfort, and ease of embarkation, the progressive NEXUS is yet to meet its match.
The NEXUS boosts 900-914 liters of interior space per adult in its regular configuration. This is identical to the popular and proven Cruise Sub 7.
Competitive alternatives offer as little as 700 liter per person, thereby underlining U-Boat Worx’ true commitment to passenger comfort and experience.
The seating arrangement consists of 3 luxury full-size business-class seats for adults on both sides of the pilot. The pilot has a fixed seat at the centre of the submarine. The NEXUS 8 has a user-configurable seat. This full-size seat for a guest, scientist or expedition leader can easily be converted to a comfortable bench that seats two children up to the age of 12. This would result in the NEXUS 8 to accommodate 1 pilot, 6 adults, and 2 children – a total of 9 occupants!
The configurable seat allows a high degree of flexibility in your mission profile.
No compromise will be made towards safety equipment, life support, or endurance and comfort.
For completely customised interior configurations, please check interior configurations below.
From a viewing perspective, the NEXUS offers the most immersive dive experience on the market. The absence of top- or side-floaters on the exterior design gifts an unhindered interior observation window. All occupants benefit from a clear line of sight in all directions, at all times.
The innovative elliptical pressure hull is made from three sections that are bonded together to form one undisturbed seamless viewport. Please note this pressure hull design causes a level of distortion that is not experienced in more traditional spherical submarines. To minimise distortion and possible discomfort, U-Boat Worx has opted for an optimal transition in the thickness between the sections.
There is no denying that an exquisitely designed interior adorned with high-quality materials and beautiful finishes is one of the exclusive features found in the NEXUS. But great aesthetics count for nothing without the corresponding space. Alongside a life-affirming front-row seat, the NEXUS interior is designed from a passenger-centric perspective. What this means is that the generous layout gifts passengers more leg room, greater ceiling height and a larger amount of personal space than found on any other submersible in the industry.
What’s more, a myriad of user-defined interior configurations mean the NEXUS can easily be adapted to suit a large variety of different applications. Contact us to learn more.
Another major design achievement is the NEXUS’ ability to move in any direction. This was proven time-and-again as a must-have capability in the Cruise Sub series. So, in addition to basic manoeuvres, such as forward, reverse, up and down movements, the submersible can also move laterally. Lateral movements greatly optimise the submersible’s object approach and dive efficiency, therefore enhancing passengers’ view and giving the pilot greater freedom to explore.
Getting in and out of a submersible can feel like a daunting task, especially for those with limited mobility. It’s for this reason the NEXUS is specifically designed to be highly stable yet deftly manoeuvrable on the surface. A 90 cm freeboard allows for the safe operation and boarding of the NEXUS, even in rougher waters wherever you are in the world. It eradicates the issues of getting wet feet and instability that would be the case with competitive designs.
Ergonomic and strategically placed handrails, grips and steps help explorers young and old to board safely and comfortably.
From a safety point of view the NEXUS – together with the Cruise Subs – are unique in that they provide sufficient deck space to hold all occupants on the submersible’s deck.
The NEXUS is equipped with the largest diameter hatch found in the industry, which further assists with quick and easy boarding. The optional inclusion of an elevator – something of a rarity aboard submersibles – makes the transition for all ages and abilities smoother than ever before.
Rating highly on design and comfort, the NEXUS is also the fastest multi-passenger submarine on the market. Its impressive battery capacity – the best on the market – provides power to a total of eight thrusters, each strategically placed for optimal performance. When in transit, the submarine can use all its laterally-oriented thrusters to guarantee fast sideways displacement.
As long-distance mobilisation is oftentimes done by towing, the NEXUS has also been optimised for this application.
When designing each model, U-Boat Worx factors in a variety of specific solutions to ensure safe and effortless launch and recovery from any type of support vessel. The NEXUS Sub range is no exception. Its dual lifting point configuration – optionally via a single lifting point – allows for safe and quick launch and recovery.
Another unique feature of each U-Boat Worx submersible is the MARLIN Controller. This wireless remote control allows the operator or pilot to steer the submarine while it is on the surface – effortlessly guiding the sub away from, or back to, the support vessel.
Each U-Boat Worx submersible is delivered with a world-class pilot training course. The intuitive interface of our submersibles is easy for pilots to learn. Unique to the U-Boat Worx private submarines is passengers being able to navigate the submersible while under supervision of the pilot. The unique control device – the MANTA Controller – can simply be handed over by the pilot to his guests for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to personally steer a submarine.
The NEXUS utilises U-Boat Worx’ proven Pressure-Tolerant Lithium-ion battery system. This battery technology offers up to 100% more capacity than traditional private submarines. A total capacity of 62 kWh allows extending mission time and minimise operational limitations. Abundant power has made it possible to apply more and stronger thrusters on our NEXUS. Speed both on the surface and underwater are important to keep the sub on course and in position. Another advantage is that greater depths can be reached in record time. The NEXUS is without peer.
With the NEXUS, we have aspired to create the ultimate in luxury interior design. When onboard a NEXUS submersible, guests enjoy exhilarating views from a sumptuous chair in a comfortable air-conditioned environment with variable airflow, adjustable from each seat. You can also enjoy music from a hi-fidelity Bluetooth sound-system and even chill your favourite drinks in a cold-storage box.
The exceptional architecture of the NEXUS with its single acrylic spheres offers an incomparable immersive dive experience. All passengers share the same unique, undisturbed and undistorted view in all directions. Passengers are safely and comfortably surrounded by the deep sea. The passenger seats are mounted on two revolving platforms that can turn to face any direction in order to experience the best view.
A distinctive feature of the NEXUS is omni-directional movement. Eight vectored horizontal thrusters allow for forward and transverse sailing capabilities. The interior can rotate to match the sailing direction so every passenger has the best view possible.
To experience the underwater world in the optimal way, one of U-Boat Worx’ design priorities has always been the clearest view. To ensure this, our remarkably clear fully acrylic pressure hull has been positioned at the front of the submersible, providing an unobstructed view in every direction, unimpeded by ballast tanks, batteries and other components.

The controller also provides quick access to intelligent pilot assistance features such as Auto-heading and Auto-depth.
Initially developed to make launch and recovery effortless and safe, the MARLIN Controller is a wireless remote that can navigate the submarine on the surface. Once the submarine is in the water, the controller can be used to steer it away from the support vessel without a pilot inside. The MARLIN Controller can also be used to keep the submarine in position above a dive site, while the pilot assists with passenger embarkation.
With Auto-depth engaged, the submersible will hold steady at its current depth. When applying vertical thrust, the function will automatically disengage and seamlessly respond to the pilot’s commands. This function forms part of the intelligent pilot assistance features.
When Auto-heading is activated, the submersible will automatically hold its current heading, whether following a course or facing an object of interest. This function forms part of the intelligent pilot assistance features.
The U-Boat Worx Information System (UIS) gives the pilot direct access to all relevant information on a clear touchscreen display. This PLC-based network of sensors ensures the right information is provided at the right time. The UIS makes diving effortless.
Apart from the basic forward, reverse, up and down movements, the submersible can also move laterally. Lateral movement greatly optimises object approach, view, and dive efficiency.
The MDP feature prevents the pilot from diving deeper than the submarine’s maximum operating depth. In case the submersible should ever find itself too deep, this safety feature will automatically raise the sub until it is once again within its certified depth.
This weight can be manually released from within the submersible to increase the buoyancy of the submarine and return it to the surface.
A Pinger gives out a pulse that can be received on the surface. With the receiver unit, you can pinpoint at all times the exact position of the submarine when submerged.
This DMS safety system will automatically resurface the submersible in the unlikely event that the pilot becomes incapable of controlling it. The pilot needs to acknowledge the DMS every 10 minutes, otherwise it will initiate the ascent procedure.
The Safety Buoy is characteristic for U-Boat Worx submersibles. When released it marks the position of the submarine on the surface. The safety buoy of the deep-diving C-Researcher models also sends a signal to the mother ship. The Dyneema Rope that connects the buoy with the submersible measures 1.5 times the operating depth of the submersible.
Certification by the world-leading classification society, DNV, requires each individual submersible to meet stringent and extensive rules and regulations, as well as pass a range of rigorous test and trials from design to final delivery. Overseen by independent surveyors, this is an independent verification of the safety of every U-Boat Worx submersible.
