Automatic trim weight system

The C-Researchers are characterised by their abundant payload. This payload can be used for carrying many optional extras or collecting underwater objects. The automatic trim weight system maintains the horizontal trim of the submersible when gathering heavy samples and at the surface.

Large access hatch

You embark the submarine through its top-hatch. This is a large opening on the top that allows for comfortable entry into the interior of the submersible.

Safety

The safety and peace of mind of our clients is absolutely paramount. Each U-Boat Worx submersible is equipped with a multitude of safety systems and features. In addition to these, all our submersibles are delivered with a classification certificate by world-leading classification society, DNV GL.

Effortless control

Each U-Boat Worx submersible is delivered with a world-class pilot training course. The intuitive interface of our submersibles is easy for pilots to learn. Unique to the U-Boat Worx private submarines is passengers being able to navigate the submersible while under supervision of the pilot. The unique control device – the MANTA Controller – can simply be handed over by the pilot to his guests for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to personally steer a submarine.

Pressure-Tolerant Battery System

The Pressure-Tolerant Battery System houses the batteries and electronics in oil-filled pressurised enclosures. The use of pressure-resistant components reduces the size and weight of the submersible, particularly on the deep-diving models.

Luxurious and spacious interior

With the C-Researcher series, we have aspired to create the ultimate in luxury interior design. When onboard a C-Researcher, guests enjoy exhilarating views from a sumptuous chair in a comfortable air-conditioned environment with variable airflow, adjustable from each seat. You can also enjoy music from a hi-fidelity Bluetooth sound-system and even chill your favourite drinks in a cold-storage box.

Unimpeded view

To experience the underwater world in the optimal way, one of U-Boat Worx’ design priorities has always been the clearest view. To ensure this, our remarkably clear fully acrylic pressure hull has been positioned at the front of the submersible, providing an unobstructed view in every direction, unimpeded by ballast tanks, batteries and other components.

Lashing points

Ample lashing points are affixed to ensure that the submarine can be properly and firmly secured on the deck of the support vessel.

Sonar

This compact ultra-wide (130-degree) field-of-view instrument has a range of 100 meters, which acts as a second set of eyes when navigating the subsea terrain.

Thrusters

The powerful thrusters and the excellent manoeuvrability of the C-Researcher submarines provide superior performance both on the surface as well as underwater. The submersibles can go faster, manoeuvre better, and dive for longer, compared with others on the market. The six thrusters provide unparalleled control and omni-directional movement, including unmatched lateral movement.

Underwater communication

While diving, the pilot is in continuous contact with the surface. The integrated acoustic underwater telephone is an important safety feature as it allows for wireless two-way communication.

Maximal manoeuvrability and speed

The C-Researchers utilise U-Boat Worx’ latest Pressure-Tolerant Lithium-ion battery system. This new battery technology offers up to 100% more capacity than traditional private submarines. A total capacity of 62 kWh allows the C-Researcher series to extend mission time and minimize operational limitations. Abundant power has made it possible to apply more and stronger thrusters on our C-Researchers. Speed both on the surface and underwater are important to keep the sub on course and in position. Another advantage is that greater depths can be reached in record time. The C-Researcher series is without peer.

Safety Buoy

The Safety Buoy is characteristic for U-Boat Worx submersibles. When released it marks the position of the submarine on the surface. The safety buoy of the deep-diving C-Researcher models also sends a signal to the mother ship. The Dyneema Rope that connects the buoy with the submersible measures 1.5 times the operating depth of the submersible.

Tag line attachments

Ample points are fastened around the C-Researcher to attach tag lines that control the movement of the submersible during lifting operations.

Uncompromised surface capabilities

The C-Researcher is highly stable and manoeuvrable at the surface. These are very important characteristics for easy boarding of the sub. With a C-Researcher submersible you will not get wet feet during when transferring to the submarine. Ergonomic and strategically placed handrails, grips and steps help young and old to embark and disembark safely and comfortably.

Single lifting point

The single lifting point makes launch and recovery quick and easy. By only having to attach it at one point – to the crane – you create a safer environment. With the quick-release and efficient-connect lifting gear, you can be quickly in and out of the water. If desired, its man-riding certification supports lifting operations to take place with people inside.

Pressure-Tolerant Battery System

The Pressure-Tolerant Battery System houses the batteries and electronics in oil-filled pressurised enclosures. The use of pressure-resistant components reduces the size and weight of the submersible, particularly on the deep-diving models.

Lithium-ion battery technology

The latest in Lithium-ion battery technology is used to give our submersibles the ultimate performance, lowest weight, smallest footprint, and best endurance. The Lithium-ion Battery System can be quickly recharged and is maintenance-free.

MANTA Controller

The MANTA Controller allows for pinpoint precision manoeuvring. The intuitive controls permit for supervised passenger steering, offering passengers an even more exciting dive experience. The controller also provides quick access to intelligent pilot assistance features such as Auto-heading and Auto-depth.

MARLIN Controller

Initially developed to make launch and recovery effortless and safe, the MARLIN Controller is a wireless remote that can navigate the submarine on the surface. Once the submarine is in the water, the controller can be used to steer it away from the support vessel without a pilot inside. The MARLIN Controller can also be used to keep the submarine in position above a dive site, while the pilot assists with passenger embarkation.

Auto-depth

With Auto-depth engaged, the submersible will hold steady at its current depth. When applying vertical thrust, the function will automatically disengage and seamlessly respond to the pilot’s commands. This function forms part of the intelligent pilot assistance features.

Auto-heading

When Auto-heading is activated, the submersible will automatically hold its current heading, whether following a course or facing an object of interest. This function forms part of the intelligent pilot assistance features.

UIS

The U-Boat Worx Information System (UIS) gives the pilot direct access to all relevant information on a clear touchscreen display. This PLC-based network of sensors ensures the right information is provided at the right time. The UIS makes diving effortless.

Man-rated lifting

The C-Researchers are delivered with a man-rated lifting certification as standard, which permits manned launch and recovery if the circumstances require.

Automatic trim weight system

The C-Researchers are characterised by their abundant payload. This payload can be used for carrying many optional extras or collecting underwater objects. The automatic trim weight system maintains the horizontal trim of the submersible when gathering heavy samples and at the surface.

Omni-directional operational

Apart from the basic forward, reverse, up and down movements, the submersible can also move laterally. Lateral movement greatly optimises object approach, view, and dive efficiency.

Safety
  • Maximum depth protection (MDP)
  • Deadman's Switch (DMS)
  • Drop Weight
  • Safety Buoy
  • Pinger
  • DNV GL Certification

Maximum depth protection (MDP)

The MDP feature prevents the pilot from diving deeper than the submarine’s maximum operating depth. In case the submersible should ever find itself too deep, this safety feature will automatically raise the sub until it is once again within its certified depth.

Deadman's Switch (DMS)

This DMS safety system will automatically resurface the submersible in the unlikely event that the pilot becomes incapable of controlling it. The pilot needs to acknowledge the DMS every 10 minutes, otherwise it will initiate the ascent procedure.

Drop Weight

This weight can be manually released from within the submersible to increase the buoyancy of the submarine and return it to the surface.

Pinger

A Pinger gives out a pulse that can be received on the surface. With the receiver unit, you can pinpoint at all times the exact position of the submarine when submerged.

DNV GL Certification

Certification by the world-leading classification society, DNV GL, requires each individual submersible to meet stringent and extensive rules and regulations, as well as pass a range of rigorous test and trials from design to final delivery. Overseen by independent surveyors, this is an independent verification of the safety of every U-Boat Worx submersible.
