Features of the Cruise Sub Series

Image

SAILING IN ALL DIRECTIONS

Apart from the basic forward, reverse, up and down movements, the submersible can also move laterally. Lateral movement greatly optimises object approach, view, and dive efficiency. Combined with the revolving seating platform the Cruise Sub offers all guests the best view possible regardless of sailing direction.

Image

THE BEST VIEW FOR EVERYBODY

The exceptional architecture of the Cruise Sub with its two large acrylic spheres offers an incomparable immersive dive experience. All passengers share the same unique, undisturbed and undistorted view in all directions. With other tourist submarines passengers have little space or small windows. The spacious interior inside each acrylic sphere of the Cruise Sub allows for a comfortable dive experience while being surrounded by the deep sea. The passenger seats in each sphere are mounted on a revolving platform that can turn to face any direction in order to experience the best view.

Image

FORWARD AND REVERSE EXPLORATION

Besides the ability to sail while the two acrylic spheres face the subject, these submersibles can also sail forward or in reverse direction. Use all horizontal thrusters while moving forward or in reverse to cruise quickly from dive site to dive site. During the entire dive with a Cruise Sub the seating platform can be turned in any desired position in order to get the best view.

Image

BOARDING POSITION

While boarding the Cruise Sub both seating platforms face the middle, which allows passengers to get to their seats in comfort. Underwater, passengers may choose this position to share their experience and enjoy each other’s company.

Image

EVER-READY

Some may believe that getting a submersible ready to dive is a time-consuming operation. However, Owners of U-Boat Worx submersibles know that their submarines are simple, efficient and easy to launch and recover. Pre-dive preparations are swiftly executed by our effective design, state-of-the-art software and smart checklists that ensure your submersible is ready to dive whenever you are.

Myths debunked
  • DOUBLE BUBBLE ADVANTAGE
  • SITUATIONAL AWARENESS
  • REALITY VS. RENDER
  • REAL DEPTH RATINGS
  • NEXT GENERATION
  • MOST SPACIOUS

DOUBLE BUBBLE DESIGN

Incorrect claims about single bubble designs and their level of comfort are often encountered. Our award-winning Cruise Sub 7 offers the largest interior volume in the industry with 6,840 litres of interior volume – making it the most spacious and comfortable 7-seat submersible on the market. All passengers share the same unique, undisturbed and undistorted view in every direction. The passenger seats in each sphere are mounted on a revolving platform that can turn to face any direction to achieve the best view. Single bubble high capacity designs are far less versatile and struggle with positioning all passengers with an equal view and sufficient comfort.

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

Pilots in the Cruise Sub series enjoy optimal first-hand visual awareness in all directions. Each Cruise Sub is equipped with advanced assistance technologies that enhance situational awareness – even in the most demanding environmental conditions. This includes short- and long-distance obstacle detection using sonar, accurate altitude (distance to seabed) readings, a 360-degree camera, and a USBL navigation system showing the exact position of the submarine. The three smart-technology information screens in front of the pilot present all available input, providing a precise picture of the sub’s location and immediate surroundings. This advanced level of enhanced situational awareness can only be found in the exclusive line of U-Boat Worx submersibles.

REALITY VS. RENDER

Other companies attempt to wow their potential clients with striking artists’ impressions and unproven concepts. We use well-researched prototypes to build and develop market-ready, tried and tested subs which our clients can totally rely upon. We are the industry leader as a result of many years of inhouse innovation and expertise. Our track record has provided our legacy, so don’t be fooled by shiny renders and ridiculous claims.

REAL DEPTH RATINGS

When designing a submersible, there are numerous safety factors to be considered. One of them is design temperature at depth. U-Boat Worx utilizes high margins of safety to ensure its clients can dive to the advertised depth in any part of the world. Our submersibles are certified with a conservative depth-rating, meaning you will be able to dive anywhere in the world up to the full depth, without temperature limitations. This will guarantee you’re able to dive in the Pacific, Red Sea and Caribbean to the full advertised depths. Competitors are known to advertise depth ratings based on a less favourable temperature rating. Meaning in warmer parts, like the Red Sea the acrylic won’t be able to go the full “advertised” depth.

NEXT GENERATION

The award-winning Cruise Sub series is the next generation of submarine technology, years ahead of the competition. This multi-passenger submersible provides passengers with the safest, most luxurious, and spacious interior available. The Cruise Sub series is the most ruggedised submersible in the market today, capable of diving in the most extreme of conditions and with 350% power increase over other current generation models. With an effective power-range of 62 kWh, you can plan multiple dives or longer dives with confidence. The generous configuration and premium features in the Cruise Sub series evoke a feeling of spacious freedom while the engineering ensures a diving comfort only found in the exclusive line of U-Boat Worx submersibles.

MOST SPACIOUS

Sure, having an exquisitely-designed interior adorned with high-quality materials and beautiful finishes is one of the exclusive features only found in the Cruise Sub Series. Still, anyone who understands what true luxury is, knows that having space is equally important. Besides giving all our passengers a front row seat to the action, we designed our Cruise Sub around our passengers. Due to its exclusive spacious interior design, the passengers in the Cruise Sub series will have more leg space, more headroom and more personalised space not found anywhere else in the industry.

Revolving interior

Each sphere features a revolving seating platform, which allows passengers to have the best view possible regardless of the direction the submarine is travelling. This design feature allows everyone to enjoy an unencumbered view and first-hand experience of deep exploration diving.

Pressure-Tolerant Battery system

The Pressure-Tolerant Battery System houses the batteries and electronics in oil-filled pressurised enclosures. The use of pressure-resistant components reduces the size and weight of the submersible, particularly on the deep-diving models.

Lithium-ion Battery Technology

The latest in Lithium-ion battery technology is used to give our submersibles the ultimate performance, lowest weight, smallest footprint, and best endurance. The Lithium-ion Battery System can be quickly recharged and is maintenance-free.

MANTA Controller

The MANTA Controller allows for pinpoint precision manoeuvring. The intuitive controls permit for supervised passenger steering, offering passengers an even more exciting dive experience. The controller also provides quick access to intelligent pilot assistance features such as Auto-heading and Auto-depth.

MARLIN Controller

Initially developed to make launch and recovery effortless and safe, the MARLIN Controller is a wireless remote that can navigate the submarine on the surface. Once the submarine is in the water, the controller can be used to steer it away from the support vessel without a pilot inside. The MARLIN Controller can also be used to keep the submarine in position above a dive site, while the pilot assists with passenger embarkation.

Auto-depth

With Auto-depth engaged, the submersible will hold steady at its current depth. When applying vertical thrust, the function will automatically disengage and seamlessly respond to the pilot’s commands. This function forms part of the intelligent pilot assistance features.

Auto-heading

When Auto-heading is activated, the submersible will automatically hold its current heading, whether following a course or facing an object of interest. This function forms part of the intelligent pilot assistance features.

UIS

The U-Boat Worx Information System (UIS) gives the pilot direct access to all relevant information on a clear touchscreen display. This PLC-based network of sensors ensures the right information is provided at the right time. The UIS makes diving effortless.

Omni-directional operation

Apart from the basic forward, reverse, up and down movements, the submersible can also move laterally. Lateral movement greatly optimises object approach, view, and dive efficiency.

MAXIMUM DEPTH PROTECTION (MDP)

The MDP feature prevents the pilot from diving deeper than the submarine’s maximum operating depth. In case the submersible should ever find itself too deep, this safety feature will automatically raise the sub until it is once again within its certified depth.

DROP WEIGHT

This weight can be manually released from within the submersible to increase the buoyancy of the submarine and return it to the surface.

PINGER

A Pinger gives out a pulse that can be received on the surface. With the receiver unit, you can pinpoint at all times the exact position of the submarine when submerged.

DEADMAN'S SWITCH (DMS)

This DMS safety system will automatically resurface the submersible in the unlikely event that the pilot becomes incapable of controlling it. The pilot needs to acknowledge the DMS every 10 minutes, otherwise it will initiate the ascent procedure.

SAFETY BUOY

The Safety Buoy is characteristic for U-Boat Worx submersibles. When released it marks the position of the submarine on the surface. The safety buoy of the deep-diving C-Researcher models also sends a signal to the mother ship. The Dyneema Rope that connects the buoy with the submersible measures 1.5 times the operating depth of the submersible.

DNV CERTIFICATION

Certification by the world-leading classification society, DNV, requires each individual submersible to meet stringent and extensive rules and regulations, as well as pass a range of rigorous test and trials from design to final delivery. Overseen by independent surveyors, this is an independent verification of the safety of every U-Boat Worx submersible.

Freeboard Extender

Freeboard is the height between the hatch and the waterline. The Freeboard Extender is a sliding barrier that increases the distance between the water and the hatch opening. It simultaneously allows for the submarine to be operated in rough conditions and be stored in low-height garage spaces.
